Veteran filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma recently shared his candid opinion on the stark contrast between Bollywood stars and actors like Allu Arjun, who he believes have redefined the art of portraying characters. In a tweet, Varma lauded Allu Arjun’s performance in Pushpa 2, calling it a “wake-up call” for the Indian film industry.

In his tweet, Ram Gopal Varma critiqued Bollywood stars for their limited interpretation of character portrayal. He wrote “Unlike the likes of @LeoDeCaprio who is unbelievably versatile ranging from a Titanic to a Revenant to a Wolf of Wall Street, Bollywood stars never believed in playing characters. Their understanding of characters never goes beyond little alterations in hair style and clothing because they believe stars should look like stars. Some fake and artificial mannerisms is what they think is character unlike the mannerisms of @alluarjun which seem to come out organically from within the character.”

Praise for Allu Arjun’s Evolution in Pushpa 2

Turning his focus to Allu Arjun, Ram Gopal Varma highlighted the actor’s extraordinary transformation in Pushpa 2. He tweeted: “@alluarjun is the 1st ever STAR in INDIA who became an ACTOR to play a CHARACTER in #Pushpa2 and its DINOSAURIAN MEGA SUCCESS should be a wake-up call to all STARS to stop depending upon SLOW MOTION etc and seriously work on characteristics.”

Varma explained how Allu Arjun’s mannerisms in the film felt authentic and rooted in the character, a quality that he believes sets him apart from most mainstream actors in India.
