SCOOP: Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 expected to have paid previews from the evening of October 1
Less than three weeks are left for the release of one of the most-awaited films of 2025, Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1, and the excitement is slowly building around the film. The much-anticipated theatrical trailer will arrive this week, after which the buzz for the film is expected to increase considerably. The film releases in cinemas on October 2 and Bollywood Hungama has learned that there’s a possibility that fans might get to watch Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 a day before.
A trade source told Bollywood Hungama, “The banner, Hombale Films, is toying with the idea of organizing paid previews across the country in various languages a day before the theatrical release, that is, Thursday, October 1. They want to start the show from evening onwards. They believe that it would add to their collections and also help in spreading the word of mouth faster.”
The source continued, “There’s no major film releasing on September 26. Hence, getting showcasing on October 1 won’t be a problem. Moreover, October 2 is a National Holiday on account of Gandhi Jayanti. As a result, footfalls can be huge on October 1, a day before a major holiday. Moreover, it’s also a day before Dussehra; the festive spirit will also contribute to the collections. These factors have prompted the makers to think of paid previews. However, the final decision is yet to be taken. In a few days, there will be some clarity on this aspect.”
An industry insider commented, “Having paid previews a day before such big holidays can prove beneficial, if we go by the examples in the past. The 2013 Eid release Chennai Express collected Rs. 6.75 crores, a huge amount 12 years ago. Last year, Stree 2 broke all paid preview records as it collected a record Rs. 9.40 crores a day before its release on Independence Day. In 2015, Talvar was one of the releases on October 2 and had paid previews on October 1. Despite being a niche fare, its paid preview earnings were Rs. 50 lakhs, which had surprised trade pundits at that time. Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1, meanwhile, is far bigger due to the insane popularity of the first part, Kantara (2022). As a result, one can imagine its business on October 1.
Meanwhile, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari also arrives in cinemas on October 2. The trailer of the Varun Dhawan-Janhvi Kapoor-Sanya Malhotra-Rohit Saraf starrer was released yesterday and has met with a positive response. With both October 2 releases looking promising, the tenth month of the year is off to a great start. It now remains to be seen whether Kantara: A Legend – Chapter 1 will have paid previews and if it does, will Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari also follow suit.
