The legendary actor Amitabh Bachchan, known for his passion for sports, joined millions of Indians in celebrating the team’s memorable victory against South Africa in a thrilling final on Sunday.

Bachchan took to his X (formerly Twitter) account to share his excitement and congratulate the team, calling the win a moment of great national pride. He wrote, “T 5552 – jiit gye!!! India Women Cricket … WORLD CHAMPIONS!! So much pride you have brought for us all … CONGRATULATIONS CONGRATULATIONS CONGRATULATIONS!!!!”

The actor’s post quickly went viral as fans echoed his sentiments, celebrating the landmark win.

Match Summary

South Africa won the toss and chose to bowl first. India’s innings got off to a solid start with an impressive opening partnership between Smriti Mandhana (45 off 58 balls, eight fours) and Shafali Verma. The duo set the tone for the innings with a century stand.

Shafali continued her fine form, scoring 87 off 78 balls with seven fours and two sixes. She added another 62 runs with Jemimah Rodrigues (24 off 37 balls, one four). India reached a strong position at 166/2.

A 52-run stand between skipper Harmanpreet Kaur (20 off 29 balls, two fours) and Deepti Sharma helped India cross the 200-run mark. Deepti then played a crucial knock, scoring 58 off 58 balls with three fours and a six, while Richa Ghosh added a quick 34 off 24 balls with three fours and two sixes. India finished with a competitive total of 298/7 in 50 overs. Ayabonga Khaka was the pick of the bowlers for South Africa, taking 3/58.

During the chase, South Africa made a steady start with a fifty-run opening stand. Tazmin Brits (23 off 35 balls) was the first to fall. Despite skipper Laura Wolvaardt’s resistance, Shafali Verma (2/36) and Shree Charani made key breakthroughs, reducing South Africa to 148/5.

Wolvaardt fought hard, scoring a valiant 101 off 98 balls, including 11 fours and a six, and shared a 61-run partnership with Annerie Dercksen (37 off 35 balls). However, Deepti Sharma’s brilliant spell turned the game in India’s favor. She dismissed both set batters and went on to claim her maiden five-wicket haul (5/39) in a World Cup final — a first for an Indian woman. South Africa was eventually bowled out for 246, handing India a historic victory and their maiden ICC Women’s World Cup trophy.

Bachchan’s heartfelt message summed up the nation’s pride as fans celebrated this defining moment in Indian women’s cricket history.
