Border 2’s ‘Jaate Hue Lamhon’ song launch: Suniel Shetty, Roop Kumar Rathod get teary-eyed over Ahan’s grand re-launch: “Everyone feels, ‘Suniel Shetty ka beta hai. Kaam toh bahut milta hai’. However, he went through a lot in life”

The song ‘Jaate Hue Lamhon’ from Border 2 was launched in the presence of Ahan Shetty, Anyaa Singh, Bhushan Kumar, Nidhi Dutta, Vishal Mishra and Roop Kumar Rathod at a club in a defence area in Mumbai. The highlight was the presence of none other than Suniel Shetty, who featured in Border (1997). Interestingly, the sequel stars his son, Ahan. What also made the event memorable is that the artists got teary-eyed more than once.

Suniel Shetty struggled to hold his tears as he said, “For Ahan, to bag a huge film like Border 2, is a feat. It’s also a responsibility. When Ahan was filming, I told him, ‘This is not just a uniform.’ Our country is not only known for its progress but also for its courage. These officers (pointing at the audience) are the ones who gave us courage. Hence, I’ll always be indebted. I use the word ‘indebted’. Nidhi wrote the film and thought of Ahan while Bhushan cast him in such a big film. It means a lot to a father.”

Remembering Ahan’s debut film Tadap (2021), Suniel Shetty said, “After his first film, thoda sa break aaya tha. We all go through turmoil. Everyone feels, ‘Suniel Shetty ka beta hai. Kaam toh bahut milta hai’. However, he went through a lot in life. At the same time, I am so happy he became a part of Border 2. It can’t get bigger than that. I pray that he has done justice and that the film works for all of us.”

Roop Kumar Rathod stated, “I have been living the magic of Border for 27 long years. This journey began 27 years ago. J P Dutta was the captain of the ship along with his father, O P Dutta saab. O P Dutta ki kami badi mehsoos hoti hai.”

He, too, had tears in his eyes as he spoke about his memories and impact. Suniel Shetty once again got emotional and he exulted, “Border 2 was and will always be our emotion. And the same goes for all of you. Thank you for being you and for everything you do for us.”

The event ended with a lovely speech by Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan. He revealed, “Border has been a part of our lives for so many years. When I joined the Indian Navy in 1986, we were wearing exactly the same uniform that Ahan wears in the movie. We never looked as good-looking as he is, though!”

He continued, “It was at 8:30 last evening when Admiral Ankur Sharma told me, ‘There’s a request (for this event) from Mr Suneil Shetty’. I was at a noisy place and couldn’t exactly hear. But I replied, ‘If the request has come from Mr Suniel Shetty, we have to do whatever we can to get it done’ (smiles). I had met him earlier. He was kind enough to attend the Navy Marathon. That’s when I spent a couple of hours with him.”

Vice Admiral Krishna Swaminathan added, “He called me this morning and asked me to show up. He admitted, ‘This event is special for me as I acted in Border, my son is in Border 2. For me, it’s like handing over the baton’. Hence, there was no way I was not going to come this evening.”

Border 2 releases in cinemas on January 23.
