Sunny Leone on working with Anurag Kashyap in Kennedy, “I didn’t get to read the whole script but he gave me a basic story of what it is”
Sunny Leone’s first collaboration with Anurag Kashyap in the form of Kennedy was finally released on Zee5. The actress got talking about the movie and more in an interview with us.

Anurag Kashyap told me you were the only choice for Kennedy. Did that thought make the role especially challenging for you?
When I went in for the audition, I had no idea that I was the only choice. So, they had tricked me. They were trying to see if I would show up to the audition and I had no idea that they had already made up their mind. They were just seeing if I would show up. But I definitely wanted to take up that challenge and I really wanted to make him happy and proud and really work on developing and learning so many things from him.
What was your initial reaction when you were offered a part by Kashyap?
I was called in for an audition and in my mind there with everything that’s happened in my career, I didn’t think that it was real until I actually was on set. Because as we know, everything in entertainment can change at the drop of a dime. So, I was so excited. I was extremely nervous. I felt so amazing that he was giving me this opportunity to work with him. So, yeah, I was beyond, beyond happy.
You play a mysterious moll with high pitched emotional vault. How closely did Kashyap guide you?
Anurag sir guided me with the character, what he wanted. He gave me different stories. He told me about who she was. He also was very clear that he wanted this particular laughter from her. And I didn’t get to read the whole script, but he gave me a basic story of what it is. And mainly, he guided me with the character. We did workshops and some dialogue coaching and every little thing. I tried to absorb as much information from him as possible. I think that when I choose to work, I want to feel like everything that I end up choosing is appealing to me. But obviously, working with Anurag sir is extremely special. So, if I get a chance to work with him or anyone on his level, then yes, it’s very appealing. I have no idea where I would be.
Bollywood gave you a new life. If you were not a part of it, where would you be?
I have no idea. I know that I would always own my own business. I definitely wouldn’t know where that would be. I guess you could do the ‘could have’, ‘would have’, ‘should have’, or ‘what ifs’ so many times. But whatever it is, I was able to recognize the amazing opportunity that India had to offer, Big Boss had to offer, and all the amazing people that I worked with. So, we were able to harness that opportunity. And, you know, it’s 15 years later, and it’s pretty amazing. Still amazing.
With the children growing up, do you have more time to do your own things?
I feel like when they were small, tiny babies, it was easier because their needs are so basic. As they get older, their needs change. And, you know, they’re vocal, and they have feelings. And, you know, they have different understandings of things in life and work and, what it means to work and also what it means for mommy and daddy to be home. And when we’re home, we are very, very present.
So, I don’t see it as I have more time to do my own thing at all. It’s actually the opposite. They might want to do their own thing. And I want to invade their own thing and be around them as much as possible. Because I know at some point as they get a lot older, they might not want me around so much. You know, they might not need me. Whereas right now, they still need me. And I like that. And I love spending time with them. It’s my favourite thing to do.
Your forthcoming projects?
In 2026, I have an AI movie. Splitsvilla is still on the table. And it’s doing very, very well. Kennedy has released. And so far, thank God, reviews have been really amazing. I’m waiting to hear some numbers and some stats. There’s also a series that I’m working on with Mr. Vikramaditya Motwane. And there’s so many things that are happening. It’s a very, very exciting time for me.
