Aditya Uppal recalls meeting Sanjay Dutt on Dhurandhar The Revenge set after growing up watching him on VCR: “Standing next to him felt like an achievement”
Actor Aditya Uppal is currently enjoying the response coming his way for Dhurandhar The Revenge, directed by Aditya Dhar. In the film, Uppal plays ASP Omar Haider, who reports to SP Aslam Chaudhary, portrayed by Sanjay Dutt. In an exclusive conversation with India Today, Uppal spoke about the experience of sharing screen space with Dutt and described the journey as deeply meaningful, especially since he had admired the senior actor since childhood.

Recalling the experience of working alongside the veteran star, Uppal admitted that there was a natural sense of nervousness at first. “You do feel intimidated, obviously. He is a senior actor, a name we’ve all grown up watching. But the beauty of Sanjay sir is that he makes everything very comfortable. He brings a certain charm with him that instantly lightens the atmosphere on set,” he said.
He added that Dutt’s presence helped him perform more freely during scenes. “He creates a space where you can stay in character, play around, and even improvise. He really lets you be,” he said.
Calling himself a longtime admirer of the actor, Uppal described the collaboration as a special personal milestone. “I’ve been his fan since childhood, so just standing next to him felt like an achievement in itself. Sharing screen space and dialogues with him was truly special.”

Highlighting a moment that stayed with him during filming, Uppal recalled Dutt’s support while shooting close-up scenes. “Even during my close-up shots, he chose to stay back and perform the scene with me instead of stepping away and using a double. That kind of support means a lot, especially for someone like me.”
Uppal also shared that his first interaction with Dutt happened directly on set due to last-minute casting. “I was cast at the last minute, and my first meeting with him was directly on set in Amritsar during the Hamza party scene. I remember touching his feet and telling him honestly that I’m one of his biggest fans, someone who grew up watching his films on VCRs.”
