Daadi Ki Shaadi weekend box office: Kapil Sharma’s comedy finds few baraatis, limps to just Rs. 2.75 cr.

The first weekend of Daadi Ki Shaadi has made one thing painfully clear: the audience did not turn up for the celebration. The film, which was expected to benefit from the family-comedy space and Kapil Sharma’s popularity, has instead opened to a weak response at the box office, collecting around Rs. 2.75 crore nett in its opening weekend.

The film began on a poor note on Friday with Rs. 0.50 crore. The Saturday number doubled to Rs. 1 crore. Sunday brought in around Rs. 1.25 crore, which again was an improvement, but nowhere close to the kind of family-audience surge that a film of this nature desperately needed. A family comedy should ideally see strong footfalls on Saturday and Sunday, especially if the word of mouth is positive. Here, the Sunday number itself suggests that the film could not build any meaningful momentum.

The Monday trend will now decide how quickly the film fades, but with a weekend of just Rs. 2.75 crore, the road ahead looks extremely difficult. Even a decent hold on Monday would be from a low base. And if the film drops sharply, it will be reduced to a single-digit lifetime total, making it another disappointing theatrical outing for Kapil Sharma.

The writing on the wall is blunt. Daadi Ki Shaadi needed the audience to arrive like wedding guests. Instead, the theatres looked like a function where the invitation was sent, but hardly anyone RSVP’d.
