Kerala Film Producers Association to enforce ‘no drugs’ affidavit for Mollywood cast and crew from June 26

In a landmark move to ensure drug-free film sets, the Kerala Film Producers Association (KFPA) has announced that all actors, technicians, and crew members working in Mollywood will soon be required to sign a ‘no drugs’ affidavit along with their remuneration contracts. The initiative is set to be implemented on June 26, coinciding with the International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking.

According to a report by OnManorama, this step is being taken by the KFPA to maintain a clean and safe working environment on film sets and at crew accommodations. The affidavit will legally bind individuals from consuming or possessing narcotics not just at the shooting locations, but also at the premises where they are housed during the shoot.

The producers’ body has written to both the Film Employees Federation of Kerala (FEFKA) and the Association of Malayalam Movie Artists (AMMA) seeking their support. FEFKA has reportedly agreed to co-sign the initiative, while AMMA is expected to discuss it in their upcoming general body meeting. A final decision from AMMA is awaited by June 24.

If approved, this measure will become mandatory for everyone involved in a film production. Any violation of the affidavit—be it drug use or behaviour that causes disruption or financial loss to the project—will make the signee legally liable, according to the proposal.

The crackdown comes in the wake of several recent controversies that have rocked the Malayalam film industry. Actor Shine Tom Chacko was arrested in April for alleged drug use and fleeing from the police amid sexual harassment accusations under the influence of drugs, by actress Vincy Aloshious. Around the same time, directors Khalid Rahman and Ashraf Hamza were arrested for drug possession. Producer Haseeb Malabar also alleged that actor Sreenath Bhasi had demanded cannabis during a film shoot.

Adding to the growing concern, filmmaker Sandra Thomas claimed that some producers were even setting aside budgets to supply drugs to stars during shoots. This bold initiative by the KFPA signals a serious intent to clean up the industry and protect the integrity of film production in Kerala.
