Huma Qureshi slams online harassment; actress calls for equal punishment for digital misconduct

Huma Qureshi has spoken candidly about online harassment, eve-teasing, and the disturbing trend of digital misconduct against women. In a recent conversation with The Male Feminist, the actress opened up about the kind of comments she faces on social media and why she believes online offenders should face the same consequences as those who engage in harassment in public spaces.

Calling out the intrusive and inappropriate messages she often receives, Huma shared, “There are comments like ‘post a picture in a bikini,’ and I am like, ‘kar kya rahe ho boss?’ It is very disgusting, and it is quite sad. Mere hisaab se toh jaise ap ladki ko physically ya kahi sadak pe chalte hue tease karne ki punishment milti he, online ki bhi same punishment honi chahiye (According to me, just like someone who physically harasses or teases a woman on the street is punished, the same punishment should apply online). There is no difference.”

The actress further elaborated on how many users cross boundaries in her DMs, behaving as though the online medium grants them immunity. “You are slipping into my DMs and sending me dirty pictures or writing dirty comments on my post, then apko bhi wahi saza milni chahiye jo kisi ko badtameezi on the road pe milni chahiye. Main sirf ek basic common sense ki baat bolna chahti hoon ki ladkiyo ko unke kapdo ke baare me, unke make-up ke baare mein, woh kaise life jeeti hein, kya kaam karti hein, kitne baje ghar waapis aati hein, unke vazan kya hein unke baare mein please tippani dena band kar dijiye (If you are sending dirty pictures or comments, you should receive the same punishment as someone misbehaving on the road. I’m just stating basic common sense—please stop commenting on women’s clothes, makeup, lifestyle, jobs, what time they return home, or their weight).”

Her remarks highlight a growing concern about the normalisation of online trolling and how women in the public eye often bear the brunt of such abusive behaviour. By demanding that the law treat online harassment as seriously as offline misconduct, Huma emphasised that the digital world should not become a free space for misbehaviour.

Meanwhile, on the professional front, Huma Qureshi is enjoying praises for her dual performances this season. In Maharani Season 4, she returns as Rani Devi, a political leader navigating power, corruption, and intense personal stakes. Simultaneously, in Delhi Crime Season 3 on Netflix, she takes on a dark, complex role as an antagonist involved in human trafficking, showcasing her range and depth as an actor. Both performances have earned her acclaim and reaffirmed her position as one of the most versatile talents in the industry.
