Esha Deol praises Sunny Deol after watching Border 2, celebrates late father Dharmendra’s Padma Vibhushan honour

On Republic Day, actress Esha Deol took to social media to share a heartfelt message that combined celebration of family milestones with support for her half-brother’s latest film. Esha’s post highlighted both her pride in their father Dharmendra receiving the Padma Vibhushan posthumously and her admiration for Sunny Deol’s performance in Border 2.

Dharmendra, the legendary actor whose career spanned decades and included iconic films such as Sholay and Chupke Chupke, was announced as a recipient of the Padma Vibhushan, India’s second-highest civilian award, recognising his enduring contribution to Indian cinema. The honour was announced by the government ahead of Republic Day.

On Instagram, Esha wrote: “Happy Republic Day. Really happy that our papa is being conferred with the prestigious Padma Vibhushan Award.” She accompanied the message with photographs from a screening of Border 2, attended with Sunny and their sister Ahana, marking their first public appearance together since their father’s passing last year.

In the same post, Esha turned her attention to Sunny Deol’s much-anticipated film, urging fans to watch it with their loved ones. “Border 2 अपने परिवार और दोस्तों के साथ ज़रूर देखिए… @iamsunnydeol you are the best 💪🏼,” she wrote, also acknowledging other cast members with: “Shout out to @ahan.shetty @varundvn @diljitdosanjh @nidhiduttaofficial — fantastic. Salute.”

The film Border 2, a continuation of the patriotic narrative first introduced in J.P. Dutta’s 1997 Border, has garnered significant attention at the box office. The film witnessed a massive surge on its fourth day, with early estimates placing Monday’s collections between Rs 60 crores and Rs 62 crores, marking its highest single-day total yet. This record-breaking Republic Day holiday haul has propelled the film’s total domestic earnings to approximately Rs 189 crores in just four days.
