Drishyam 3 pushed to May 21, 2026; Mohanlal to celebrate 66th birthday with Georgekutty’s final chapter
The makers of Drishyam 3 have officially pushed the release date of the much-anticipated thriller, with Mohanlal confirming that the film will now hit theatres on May 21, 2026. The announcement not only marks a change in schedule from its earlier April 2 release but also adds a celebratory layer, as the new date coincides with the superstar’s 66th birthday.

Sharing a striking new poster featuring his iconic character Georgekutty, Mohanlal teased the film’s tone with a cryptic message, hinting at unresolved past secrets and looming consequences. The announcement has quickly generated excitement among fans, who now have an added reason to celebrate the film’s arrival.
According to industry buzz, the decision to postpone the release was taken keeping in mind the current geopolitical climate in the Gulf region, a key overseas market for Malayalam cinema. The revised release date is also being seen as a strategic move to maximise global reach while turning the film’s debut into a landmark moment in Mohanlal’s illustrious career.

Directed by Jeethu Joseph, Drishyam 3 is set to conclude the widely acclaimed thriller franchise that began in 2013. The filmmaker has indicated that the third instalment will take a more emotionally driven approach while retaining the tension the series is known for. The story reportedly picks up four and a half years after the events of Drishyam 2, focusing on the long-term psychological impact of the family’s closely guarded secret.
Jeethu Joseph has suggested that the narrative shifts away from purely tactical ‘mind games’ and instead explores the emotional burden carried by Georgekutty and his family over the years, while staying rooted in the rustic setting of Idukki.
The film reunites the core cast, with Meena returning as Rani, alongside Ansiba Hassan and Esther Anil reprising their roles as Anju and Anu, respectively. Asha Sharath and Siddique also return as Geetha and Prabhakar, continuing their characters’ pursuit of justice.
Produced by Antony Perumbavoor under Aashirvad Cinemas, the film has already wrapped principal photography across locations including Ernakulam and Thodupuzha.
Since its inception, the Drishyam franchise has evolved into a global phenomenon, with multiple remakes across languages, including Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Chinese, and Korean. With its final chapter now locked for a May 21 release, the film is poised to turn Mohanlal’s birthday into a cinematic event, while bringing closure to one of Indian cinema’s most celebrated thrillers.
