Ram Gopal Varma says industry may “pray at Tirupati and Vaishno Devi” for a film to break Dhurandhar’s record
Ever since the release of Dhurandhar on December 5, 2025, followed by its sequel Dhurandhar The Revenge, the action spy duology directed by Aditya Dhar has continued to receive strong responses from audiences. Along with fans, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has been among the most vocal supporters of the duology and its growing box office momentum.

Now, reacting to the film’s record-breaking performance, Ram Gopal Varma suggested that the industry may look towards upcoming big releases such as Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown Ups to challenge the dominance of Dhurandhar: The Revenge at the box office.
Ram Gopal Varma on Toxic breaking Dhurandhar 2 record
Speaking to NDTV, Ram Gopal Varma said, “Annoyed isn’t the right word, but they won’t like it, because all those folks will band together to pray at Tirupati and Vaishno Devi so that their film can break Dhurandhar’s record. Now, that’s their only lifeline. Your saviour thing is only that now. So I think everyone will pray to God for Toxic to shatter Dhurandhar’s record. And I’m not saying Toxic like that, I mean that kind of filmmaking style.”
Toxic: A Fairytale for Grown Ups was earlier scheduled to release on March 19 and was expected to clash with Dhurandhar The Revenge. The possible box office face-off had generated significant interest across the trade and among audiences.
However, the makers of Toxic later postponed the release due to tensions in the Middle East. The sequel to Dhurandhar continued its run unaffected, as the film had not been released in Gulf territories.
Ram Gopal Varma defends Dhurandhar amid propaganda debate
Earlier, Ram Gopal Varma also responded to criticism, describing the Ranveer Singh starrer as propaganda. He said every filmmaker presents a perspective shaped by research and personal understanding, and that differences in interpretation are natural. According to him, cinema often reflects individual viewpoints, and audiences engage with those perspectives in different ways.
Strong box office run continues
Meanwhile, Dhurandhar: The Revenge continues its strong theatrical performance. The film recorded an impressive hold on Tuesday following its historic Monday collections. According to early estimates, the action entertainer registered only a marginal drop and collected around Rs. 54 crore on Tuesday, taking its six-day total close to Rs. 557 crore.
