Rhea Chakraborty calls Aryan Khan’s drug case “spectacularly similar” to brother Showik’s ordeal: “It was very hard to watch”
Actor Rhea Chakraborty has opened up about the emotional impact that Aryan Khan’s arrest had on her, revealing that the episode brought back painful memories of her own legal troubles and the time she and her brother, Showik Chakraborty, spent in jail. Speaking to Variety India, Rhea shared that she reached out to Aryan during the high-profile case, admitting that watching the events unfold reminded her of one of the most difficult periods of her life.

“I did. When I saw what Aryan was going through, it took me back because it was spectacularly similar. In fact, more than my story, it looked a lot like Showik’s story. They also have a resemblance. It was very, very hard to watch. I did not speak to the media many times, and I still do not,” she said.
Rhea’s comments revisit a chapter that began after the death of actor Sushant Singh Rajput in June 2020. In September that year, the actress was arrested by the Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) in connection with a drugs-related investigation. She was later granted bail, but both she and her brother Showik spent nearly a month in prison during the case.
Aryan Khan, son of Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan, faced a similar public spotlight in 2021 when he was arrested following a raid on a cruise ship off the Mumbai coast. After spending 25 days in jail, he was granted bail and was later cleared of all charges due to lack of evidence.
During the conversation, Rhea also reflected on the people who stood by her when public sentiment was overwhelmingly against her. She credited a close circle of friends for helping her navigate the intense scrutiny and emotional distress. “I had a bunch of close friends who stood by me. At the time, it was not cool to support me. Anyone who supported me used to get trolled and lose job opportunities. It was miserable for them. Shibani, Nidhi, Anisha, Samisha, and Anusha, my girlfriends, really held fort,” she said.
The actress also expressed gratitude to actors Huma Qureshi and Saqib Saleem, particularly for the support they extended to her family while she and Showik were in custody. “Saqib supported my parents a lot when Showik and I were in jail. I have been blessed to have these people in my life. If you have one true friend, that is enough to go through anything,” Rhea shared.
Concluding the discussion, the actress spoke candidly about her relationship with public attention and media scrutiny. “I do not want people to ask me anything. If you see me on the road, ignore me. Act like I am not there and just go,” she said.
